Mobile Phone Review

Nokia 6288 The Nokia 6288 is a revised version of the 6280, although it’s very difficult to see what has changed between the two models apart from a few cosmetic differences. As with the previous handset, the Nokia 6288 is a 3G slider with a 2 megapixel main camera, VGA subcamera, 240x320 pixel display, Bluetooth, multimedia support and microSD expandable memory. The main difference appears to be that the Nokia 6282 is bundled with a 512Mb memory card, compared to 64Mb on the old version.

At 115 grams, it’s heavier than some of the current crop of 3G phones, but the Nokia 6288’s predecessor was a well-liked handset which means that the new one should prove to be a practical and versatile device. The pricing isn’t too expensive either, at €325 before tax and subsidy.

Overall, the Nokia 6288 looks to be a good device and it goes to prove that you don’t need an expensive N-series phone to go 3G with Nokia.

The Nokia 6288 should be available sometime during Q4 2006 in black and white colour combinations.

Nokia 6085 open The Nokia 6085 is an inexpensive clamshell phone with expandable memory and an MP3 player, pitched to sell at €175 before tax and subsidy.

Frankly, it’s a pretty disappointing mix of components that appear to have been thrown together. Nokia have revise a fairly standard overall look that we’ve seen in other 6000 series clamhshells, and then added a low end 128x160 pixel display and VGA resolution camera. Admittedly, the Nokia 6085 comes with a microSD slot, FM radio, Bluetooth and an MP3 player and usefully it is a quad-band GSM phone.. but overall it’s a pretty unsatisfactory mix of components.

Nokia 6085 The screen on the Nokia 6085 is a particular gripe - 128x160 pixels is just not good enough for any modern phone, although at least it is a TFT display so it should be sharp and clear. The VGA resolution camera seems hardly worh including. And it this is a dedicated music phone, then where are the multimedia keys?

It’s quite a light phone - the Nokia 6085 weighs just 84 grams - and the quoted battery life is pretty good too, with up to 5 hours talktime and 10 days standby time.

The Nokia 6085 has some good features, but overall it looks like it has be thrown together from a set of components from other handsets. There’s nothing particularly inspiring or distinctive about the 6085, but if you’re looking for a low-cost, lightweight clamshell that can play music and you’re not too fussed about other features, then perhaps the 6085 will be what you are looking for.
