The Nokia 2630 is Nokia’s slimmest and lightest handset to date at just 66 grams in weight and coming in at only 9.9mm thick. It’s a somewhat basic but very practical phone - the Nokia 2630 comes with a 128x160 pixel TFT display in 65,000 colours, Bluetooth, a VGA resolution camera and FM radio plus a web browser, GPRS, MMS messaging and an email client.Despite the Nokia 2630’s light weight, the battery gives an impressive 6 hours maximum talktime and 13 days standby time.
The best feature of all is the price - Nokia say that the 2630 should cost around €85 before tax and subsidy which is a very good price for a stylish and slim handset such as this.
Nokia are pitching the 2630 at developing markets, but it is clear that this handset will have a wide appeal worldwide.
A step down from the 2630 is the Nokia 1650 which is sits nearly at the bottom of Nokia’s range. This also features a 128x160 pixel display and an FM radio, plus a flashlight.
Other features on the Nokia 1650 are a 500 number phonebook, storage space for 250 SMS messages and a stereo wired headset and optional speaker set for use with the FM radio. There’s no camera on the 1650.
The battery life on the Nokia 1650 is one of the longest on any phone that we’ve come across, a staggering 8 hours talktime with up to 17 days standby time.
The Nokia 1650 only weighs 80 grams, which is impressive considering the long battery life. The trick Nokia have pulled off is to keep the number of features down as much as possible which has advantages when it comes to battery life, weight and price.
At just €55 before tax and subsidy, the Nokia 1650 represents very good value for monet. It certainly looks more expensive than that, and many people will be pleased to be able to afford a colour Nokia for that sort of price.
The Nokia 1650 will be available from Q2 2007 in metallic red and metallic black colours.
